Lion Taming: Finding Your Power in Negotiations
Oct 26, 2025
So proud of this article. There are so many lessons I have learned as a coach, and this article is a great representation of concepts that really work. I highly recommend Kasia Urbaniak's book, "A Woman's Guide to Power Unbound" which helped me understand the importance of attention and influence. Her explanation of dominant and submissive states, and how we confuse them, was a fundamental piece of knowledge that was the basis of this idea. I saw the liontamer in that explanation, and everything started to make sense.
"Power is not inherently negative, and you don’t have to roar the loudest to be the most powerful person in the room. It’s not manipulation or dominating negatively, it is the ability to influence outcomes with authenticity, clarity, and focus."
"Real confidence is the willingness to feel any negative emotion — fear, embarrassment, anger, shame — and move forward anyway. Action can transform these emotions. Feeling fear and acting anyway transforms into courage. Shame and action transform into resilience."
